How Is an Electric Go Kart Conversion Related To An Electric Car Conversion?
Hi everyone.
You might be wondering what has an Electric Go Kart got to do with an Electric Car Conversion. You may be wondering why do I even discuss go karts in my blogs. Why is an Electric Go Kart conversion relevant to an Electric Car Conversion?
Well, today, I plan on answering how an Electric Go Kart Conversion is related to an Electric Car Conversion.
What is a car?
A car is a motorized vehicle with wheels for transporting people along the ground. It usually has 4 wheels where usually 2 wheels, but sometimes all of them are propelled by a motor.
What is a go kart?
A go kart is a motorized vehicle with wheels for transporting a person along the ground, usually around a track. It usually has 4 wheels where usually 2 wheels are propelled by a motor. It is smaller in size to a car and often has less complexities than a car.
What needs to be addressed when doing an electric car conversion or an electric go kart conversion?
When doing an Electric Car Conversion or doing an Electric Go Kart conversion, here are some things to consider:
- What electric motor to use. Do you want to use a DC (Direct Current) motor or an AC (Alternating Current) motor?
- How will your motor be mounted?
- How will you connect your motor to your drive train?
- What motor controller are you going to use? How much power and torque is required from the motor?
- What batteries to use. Will weight be an issue meaning you have to look at Lithium Ion batteries or Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) or is cost and simplicity more of an issue meaning Lead Acid Batteries are more likely to be an option? With Lithium Ion Batteries and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4), battery management systems (BMS) will need to be installed which increases costs and complexity.
- What safety switches and devices are going to be installed and how will they be mounted?
- How many volts are you going to run?
- What power output do you require from your batteries?
- How will you charge your batteries?
- How much range do you need?
- What speeds do you want to achieve?
- What is your budget?
What are some extra complexities an Electric Car Conversion has compared to an Electric Go Kart conversion?
Some of the extra complexities an Electric Car Conversion has compared to an Electric Go Kart conversion are:
- Most cars have a brake booster which means you will require a vacuum pump.
- If you get the car registered or licensed to drive on the road, you will have to go through registration process and compliance that is relevant in your jurisdiction. You will need to find the ones relevant to you.
- You will need to get your heater and window demister working.
- You will need to sort out your car insurances.
- If your car has power steering, you will need a power steering pump that is electrically activated rather than run from the motor.
- You may have to consider how you are going to run your air conditioning pump.
What are the benefits of discussing an electric go kart conversion to You?
The benefits of discussing an Electric Go Kart conversion to you in an Electric Car Conversion blog are:
- Go karts are great for explaining car concepts so it is fantastic at keeping focus on the Electric Car Conversion process, rather than worrying about accessories. In other words, an Electric Go Kart Conversion allows me to explain concepts and principles of an Electric Car Conversion in a way which is easy for You to grasp and apply to your Electric Car Conversion.
- It is easy to take pictures from various angles of the various parts of an Electric Go Kart which means nothing is hidden from You.
- An Electric Go Kart is a working model of a car that can be driven and enjoyed by everyone.
- An Electric Go Kart conversion will face most of the common challenges and problems that is also involved in an Electric Car Conversion.
- Electric Go Karts are fun and entertaining to work on, watch and read about.
- All the calculations required to do an Electric Go Kart conversion will be required for an Electric Car Conversion.
- EVAlbum, the respected Electric Vehicle site has a category dedicated to Electric Go Karts which means go karts are taken seriously as Electric Vehicles.
Below is a video of someone who did an Electric Go Kart Conversion whilst in high school and was offered an engineering scholarship at Purdue university. This video details the various parts used and demonstrates the power and speed of this go kart. Very impressive piece of work.
Summary
Doing an Electric Go Kart conversion is similar to doing an Electric Car Conversion. As a result, the benefits of discussing an Electric Go Kart conversion on this blog site are numerous because the Electric Car Conversion concepts can be better explained and the challenges and problems faced in doing an Electric Go Kart conversion will also be faced when doing an Electric Car Conversion.

all that is lost on the ‘net.Which raises the obvious question of why I’m bothering to comment. But like I said earlier, I like irony!
How about suggesting a new go kart class using electric engines. This would start innovation within the sector from a grass roots level and you can easily come up with somehting simple.
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your comment. I like your thinking and it is definitely a great idea. It is an idea worth pursuing. I was told by a go kart shop that in the United Kingdom, electric go karts are starting to get popular in the indoor recreational karting scene.
I’m having thoughts of participating in drifting and burnout competitions to raise the profile of electric go karts and electric car conversions (and compete against petrol/gasoline powered cars) which is why I’m looking into putting a more powerful electric motor in my go kart. One of the problems I face with putting a more powerful motor in my go kart is will the go kart axle, chain or sprockets be able to handle the power and torque, so I’m probably going to have to get a lot of parts custom made.
When I did my electric go kart conversion, one of the problems I faced was mounting of the electric motor. The engine mount kept bending and I had to put a whole bunch of reinforcements along the mount, but at least, it does not bend anymore.
Once, again, thanks for your comments and keep the ideas rolling in.

What do you think about this site? http://chisinautour.com/
Hi,
I had a quick look at your site and the layout is nice. It would be handy if you had information on driving in Moldova. Also, what licences and paperwork is needed by visitors who want to drive in Moldova.
Would be ideal if there are links on your site to car hire places where tourists can hire Electric Cars

Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any suggestions for rookie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

Good post this will really help me!
Awesome looking website. I recently built mine and I was looking for some ideas for my site and you gave me a few. May I ask you whether you developed the website by youself?
yes, did it myself, but I installed a theme which someone else built.
I like this site its a master peace ! .
I genuinely value your piece of work, Great post.
Thanks for every one of your work on this web page. Betty enjoys making time for internet research and it is simple to grasp why. Most people know all relating to the dynamic medium you make practical suggestions on the web site and as well as encourage contribution from some others on that concept while my child is without a doubt becoming educated a lot of things. Have fun with the rest of the year. Your doing a pretty cool job.
